Shopify Pricing 2026: Plans, Fees & True Monthly Cost

What Shopify actually costs, not just the plan price. Every plan side by side, the payment fees that come with each one, and a calculator that adds up apps, themes and your domain into a real monthly and yearly figure. US prices in dollars, read from Shopify's own pricing page.

How Much Does Shopify Cost?

Shopify's three standard plans cost $29, $79 and $299 a month when you pay yearly ($39, $105 and $399 month to month). Plus starts at $2,300 a month. That is the subscription only. In the calculator's example store, a Basic plan selling $5,000 a month, the $29 plan becomes about $235 a month once card fees, apps and a domain are counted. Yours will differ, which is what the calculator below is for.

On every plan

A full online store with unlimited products, unlimited web hosting, custom domain support, a free SSL certificate, and selling on social channels and marketplaces. There are no setup fees on any plan.

Add-on: POS Pro

$89 a month per location, for physical shops that need staff roles, in-store inventory and flexible pickup and delivery.

Agentic plan: $0 a month

For selling in AI channels without a Shopify online store. No monthly fee, and you only pay card rates (2.9% + 30¢ online in the US) when you make a sale.

The 12-month figures are the monthly price multiplied by 12. Plus is quoted individually and may move to a variable platform fee for larger businesses.

The Costs Beyond The Plan

The plan price is the part you can see on the pricing page. These are the parts that decide what you actually pay each month.

Card processing on every order

Card fees scale with your sales, so they quickly outgrow the plan price. A Basic store in the US selling $10,000 a month across 200 orders pays about $350 in card fees (2.9% + 30¢ per order), against a $29 plan.

Fees for using another payment provider

If customers pay through a provider other than Shopify Payments, Shopify adds 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. Your provider charges its own fees on top, so this is an extra layer, not a replacement.

Premium and international cards

Premium cards cost more online (3.5% + 30¢ on Basic in the US), and international cards add 1% on top of the online rate. A store with a lot of overseas customers pays more than the headline rate suggests.

Paid themes

Shopify has free themes, and paid themes are a one-time purchase rather than a subscription. Themes featured on the Theme Store in September 2026 were priced between $220 and $420. A paid theme is optional, so leave it at $0 in the calculator if you start on a free one.

App subscriptions

Reviews, email and SMS, upsells, subscriptions and page builders are usually separate monthly subscriptions, and they compound. Count the apps you would really install and put the total in the calculator. Many apps have a free tier, and paid tiers usually start once you pass its limits. SMS campaigns on Shopify are also pay-per-send.

A custom domain

Every store gets a free myshopify.com address. A custom domain is extra: Shopify's domains page says domains typically start at $9 a year, and the price depends on the extension. You can also connect a domain you bought elsewhere.

Marketplace order fees

Shopify syncs the first 50 marketplace orders a month for free. Above that it charges 1% of the order value, capped at $99 a month. It only matters if you sell through connected marketplaces.

POS Pro for physical shops

Basic in-person selling is included. The POS Pro add-on, with staff roles, in-store inventory tools and flexible pickup and delivery, is $89 a month per location. Skip it if you only sell online.

When A Higher Plan Pays For Itself

Higher plans cost more but charge lower payment rates. This is the monthly sales volume where the saving on rates alone covers the price difference. Below it, the cheaper plan wins on cost.

$110,000/mo paying yearly
$147,000/mo paying monthly
$55,000/mo paying yearly
$73,500/mo paying monthly

How to read it: moving from Basic to Grow while paying yearly costs $50 more a month and saves 0.2 percentage points on card rates, so it breaks even at about $25,000 a month in card sales. US rates, using the table above. It ignores what else you get, such as 5 staff accounts on Grow, which is often the real reason to upgrade.

Shopify Fees Vary By Country

There is no single global Shopify price or card rate. Plan prices are set in local currency, card rates depend on where your business is based, and Shopify Payments is only available in certain countries. Here is the Basic plan in five countries, as Shopify shows it.

The fee for using another payment provider was 2% on Basic in all five. Card rates and prices for your country are on Shopify's pricing page, which shows your local version. The calculator has an option to enter your own card rate.

Free Trial, The $1 Offer And Starter

There is no permanently free Shopify store plan, but the first few months cost very little.

1

3 Days Free

Shopify starts you on a free trial with no credit card required, enough to set up products and see whether the platform suits you.

2

$1 A Month For 3 Months

After the trial, most plans cost $1 a month for the first 3 months, then switch to standard pricing. The calculator leaves this out so it shows the cost you settle into.

3

Then Standard Pricing

From month four you pay your plan price plus payment fees, apps and the rest. Starter, a $5 a month option listed on Shopify's pricing page as recently as April 2026, no longer appears there. Check your region before planning around it.

Start On The $1 Plan

Shopify's 3-day trial needs no card, and most plans are $1 a month for the first 3 months after it. Availability varies by region.

Shopify Pricing FAQs

How much does Shopify cost per month?

On Shopify's US pricing page (checked September 2026), Basic costs $29 a month when you pay yearly or $39 month to month, Grow costs $79 or $105, and Advanced costs $299 or $399. Plus starts at $2,300 a month. That is only the subscription. Card processing is charged on every order (2.9% + 30¢ on Basic in the US), and most stores also pay for apps, a domain, and sometimes a paid theme. The calculator on this page adds them up for your own store.

Is there a free Shopify plan?

No Shopify plan lets you run a full online store for free. Shopify offers a 3-day free trial with no credit card required, and most plans then cost $1 a month for the first 3 months before switching to standard pricing. Shopify also lists an Agentic plan at $0 a month for selling in AI channels without a Shopify online store. It has no monthly fee, but card rates (from 2.9% + 30¢ in the US) still apply whenever you make a sale.

What are Shopify transaction fees?

Shopify has two kinds of payment fees. Card processing fees apply when customers pay through Shopify Payments: in the US, standard online cards cost 2.9% + 30¢ on Basic, 2.7% + 30¢ on Grow, 2.5% + 30¢ on Advanced and 2.25% + 30¢ on Plus, with higher rates for premium cards and an extra 1% on international cards. Third-party transaction fees apply if you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, charged on top of what that provider bills you. Card rates vary by country and Shopify Payments is not available everywhere, so check the rates Shopify shows for your country.

Is the Shopify Starter plan worth it?

Shopify's pricing page listed a Starter plan at $5 a month in April 2026, aimed at selling through social media, messaging apps or a simple online store. By late September 2026 the page no longer shows Starter. It lists Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus, plus a $0 Agentic plan for selling in AI channels. Availability can differ by country and account, so check Shopify's pricing page for your region before you plan around Starter. If you can still get it, it suits testing demand cheaply through links and social selling. Once you want a full branded storefront with themes and apps, Basic at $29 a month (paying yearly) is the entry plan Shopify lists today.

Do you save money by paying for Shopify yearly?

Yes. Paying yearly works out about 25% cheaper per month on Basic, Grow and Advanced: $29 instead of $39, $79 instead of $105, and $299 instead of $399. The trade-off is that you pay yearly instead of monthly, so more money goes out at once before you know how the store will perform.

How much does Shopify Plus cost?

Shopify's US pricing page lists Plus from $2,300 a month, with 1-year and 3-year subscription options. Larger, more complex businesses may pay a variable platform fee based on revenue instead. Plus adds fully customizable checkout, unlimited staff accounts, up to 200 inventory locations and lower card rates (2.25% + 30¢ online in the US). It is quoted individually, so it is not part of the calculator.

Where These Numbers Come From

Every Shopify price and rate on this page was read from Shopify's own pages in September 2026. The US figures come from a capture of Shopify's US pricing page taken on 28 September 2026. The Canada, UK, Australia and Romania figures were read from Shopify's regional pricing pages on 29 September 2026. The theme price range comes from the Shopify Theme Store and the domain price from Shopify's domains page, both as of 10 September 2026. Totals, yearly costs and break-even figures are our own arithmetic on those numbers. PagePilot is a third-party Shopify app, so these are Shopify's prices, not ours, and Shopify can change them at any time. Always confirm on Shopify before you commit.
